Two time-traveling agents from warring futures, working their way through the past, begin to exchange letters—and fall in love in this thrilling and romantic book from award-winning authors Amal-El Mohtar and Max Gladstone.
Among the ashes of a dying world, an agent of the Commandant finds a letter. It reads: Burn before reading.
Thus begins an unlikely correspondence between two rival agents hellbent on securing the best possible future for their warring factions. Now, what began as a taunt, a battlefield boast, grows into something more. Something epic. Something romantic. Something that could change the past and the future.
Except the discovery of their bond would mean death for each of them. There’s still a war going on, after all. And someone has to win that war. That’s how war works. Right?
Cowritten by two beloved and award-winning sci-fi writers, This Is How You Lose the Time War is an epic love story spanning time and space.

I don’t know how to describe my feelings towards this other than I felt seen as if these characters took my own thoughts, wrote them down across time (in prettier ways, more elegant ways, mind you) and left them for each other. I’m dying for a reread already, full of tabbing and highlighting my favorite quotes (of which there are many) and I’ve never done that before.

This is a bit of a random one for my tastes, but I wanted a short audiobook to listen to while doing a job, and this fit the bill perfectly. I was pleasantly surprised. For what it is, this is quite entertaining and I enjoyed it probably more than I thought I would. It's definitely a 3.5 star story, but I think I feel more comfortable calling it 3 than...

I was not prepared for how lyrical and epic these love letters were going to be. Just, guh, some of them gave me that weak in the knees, feel it in your chest, kind of legend making feelings.

I'm honestly not smart enough to fully comprehend the book. I was so clueless for most of the book until the ending (when everything clicked). It's definitely a book that would get better with a reread!

It wasn't what I was expecting, more poetry than science-fiction. That said, it was an interesting read and had some twists I didn't see coming.

Today was probably not the right day for me to listen to this. It seems to be exactly the kind of thing I love but it just wasn’t working out today with the distractions I had all day. I definitely want to come back to this in the future and try again so I can really get all the details and re-rate it when I’m working on full brain-power.

"I like writing you. I like reading you. When I finish your letters, I spend frantic hours in secret composing my replies, pondering ways to send them. I can trigger any combination of chemical ups and down with a carefully worded phrase; a factory within me will smelt any drug I seek. But there's a rush in reading and sencing against which no drug compares."
